Man with sexual assault warrant arrested at Calexico Port of Entry
El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents arrested a Mexican citizen attempting to illegally enter the United States Tuesday morning.
Border Patrol agents were patrolling a half mile east of the Calexico Port of Entry at 4:09 a.m. when they saw a man climbing over the international boundary fence.
Agents arrested the man and transported him to the Calexico Station for processing.
Following a records check, the man was identified as 37-year-old Miguel Jimenez-Araujo, who had been deported from the U.S. in May 2004. It was also revealed that Jimenez had been convicted of re-entry after deportation on Aug. 22nd, 2005 and served 27 months in prison.
Jimenez also has an unresolved one-million-dollar felony warrant for sexual assault filed by the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office.
“This individual was a convicted felon with an active warrant for a sexual assault attempting to sneak into this country undetected,” said Assistant Chief Patrol Agent David S. Kim. “The men and women of the U.S. Border Patrol are this country’s first line of defense against threats like this.”
The 37-year-old Mexican citizen will be prosecuted for re-entry after removal.
