Investigators are still trying to figure out what drove a Mesquite, Nevada man to fire upon a crowd; the attack has been declared the worst mass shooting in modern U.S. history. On Sunday night, thousands gathered at the Route 91 concert in Las Vegas; the 3-day country music festival was wrapping up when according to witnesses they began hearing popping noises.
Within seconds a peaceful night out turned into what many described as a ‘war zone’. Witnesses told police they saw muzzle flare coming from a nearby hotel; the gunman fired into the crowd shooting victims at random. Close to sixty people have been pronounded dead and more than five hundred have been injured.
When SWAT discovered the shooter’s location they found that Stephen Paddock had taken his own life. Along with the shooter’s body, they found a small cache of weapons and explosives. Further investigation at his home in Mesquite uncovered a small arsenal of weapons and more explosives. Homeland Security has reported that ISIS has taken responsibilty for the shooting, but no ties between Paddock and any radical islamic group has been found.
