Pioneers Museum to kick off lecture series

Pioneers Museum will be kicking of their lecture series tonight which will continue for months to come.

Historian Tammy Snook will be presenting and speaking on the history of The Yuma Quartermaster Depot.

She will be speaking about Yuma and Imperial Counties and how the two regions have been linked by The Colorado River, Southern Pacific Railroad and the Plank Road.

Tonight’s event starts at 6 p.m. and is open to the public, the lecture is free and there will be small dinners available for ten dollars.

“Our lecture series is on the last Friday of every month that we are open. Yuma and Imperial Valley, our histories are connected. The gate that brings water to the Imperial Valley is over there by Algodones, Yuma and we’ve been connected since early history. The Plank Road was an attempt to get cars across the sand dunes, were connected by the All American Canal,” said Deborah Thornburg, Historian at Pioneers Museum.

Tonights event is open to the public, dinner starts at 6 p.m. and the lecture will start at 6:40 p.m.
