Firefighters contain alley fire

Rural Metro prevented a fire from spreading to nearby homes Friday.

Firefighters said they responded to the 4200 Block of W. Eighth St. in Yuma at 1:45 a.m. The 911 call came in as trees and power lines on the fire, with some brush endangering a home.

Upon arrival of the first engine, firefighters said they found a huge pile of trash on fire that was endangering the trees. There was lots of trash and brush on the fire, according to the battalion chief; however, none of the trees caught fire.

Rural Metro said firefighters were able to stop the flames from reaching the trees and protected the houses that were close to the fire. There were no injuries to report. The cause of the fire is still unknown.
