Dog found in Dumpster; The suspect is still at large

A startling video has been circulating on social media of a man in Yuma committing a major act of animal abuse. First off we do want to mention that the dog is ok, but this was a video found on the Yuma Police departments’ Facebook page that was shocking beyond belief.

As you can see, this is video footage taken from a local business on south main street in Yuma. The footage was taken in August, but has just now recently been released. It shows a man walking around the corner with a small white poodle following him. As he hangs around the back alley, you can see he wanders a bit, looks in the trash bin and then moments later picks up the dog and puts the animal in the dumpster. Without any hesitation he then casually walks off. Now luckily someone heard the dog crying and saved the animal right away on the same day this footage was taken. The poodle was immediately taken to the humane society of Yuma and reunited with family. Lana Shapiro, the Director of Development for the shelter explains what the shelters role is when receiving an abused animal and how they were able to help this poodle in need.

“Once they are at our facility, regardless of how they came in. Whether it’s via animal control or if a good Samaritan was bringing the animal into us, we then care for it and make sure that we do the best and most humane thing for that animal. In this case in particular, it is safe at home with it’s owner and we helped facilitate that process,” said Shapiro.

Once again take a good look at this video. If you have any idea who this man might be, we urge you to contact the Yuma police department immediately at 928-783-4421 or call 78-crime to remain anonymous. If you know something, say something.
