Citizenship workshop answers immigration questions for many
People in search of U.S. citizenship had their immigration questions answered in a free naturalization workshop.
The fifth of seven workshops offered throughout the valley took place in Imperial, Wednesday. The workshop was presented in collaboration by U.S. Citizen and Immigration Services (USCIS) and Imperial Valley College.
Local immigration representatives addressed concerns about eligibility and application requirements, answered questions regarding the interview process and provided participants with different resources. USCIS officials say it is important to offer these services to make sure the public obtains the correct information they need from the agency.
“It’s important to get the information out so that people understand what the process is and how they can become U.S. citizens. And also so they can share with family members, who might be interested in becoming U.S. citizens along the way,” said Madeline Kristoff who is the community relations officer for USCIS.
Catholic Charities in El Centro (250 W. Orange Ave.) will also be conducting a citizenship workshop Friday, December 3 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Spaces are limited to the first 25 people. Organizers recommend those who are interested arrive early.
