City will begin issuing fines for false alarm calls

The city will begin issuing fines to businesses and residents who are responsible for false alarm calls s tarting December 1 .

Third-time offenders will have to pay a $100 fine, however, it can reach up to $250, according to a press release issued by the Yuma Police Department (YPD) on Tuesday.

City officials passed an ordinance in May of 2015 aiming to reduce the overall number of false alarm calls YPD responds to. According to the release the department gets about 5,000 alarm calls per year, many of which turn out to be false alarms.

Alarm users are required to register their alarm systems at www.crywoldservices.com/yumaaz/. Officials say, registered alarm systems help reduce false alarms by ensuring alarm service providers and law enforcement have up-to-date alarm response instructions and contacts to confirm whether alarm response is really necessary.
