Tracking cool conditions and evening wind gusts

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - After several days of dangerous fire weather conditions and air quality alerts, the Weather Authority First Alert Action Day has come to an end across Yuma County and Imperial County.

Residents can expect a quieter weather pattern to start the week, with mostly clear skies and temperatures cooling slightly compared to recent days.

Afternoon highs are expected to reach the upper 90s to low 100s across much of the region, providing some relief from the intense heat that dominated the forecast last week.

On Sunday and Monday, temperatures are forecast to top out around 100°F, while communities across the Imperial Valley are tracking highs of 99°F.

While conditions are improving, breezy weather will continue throughout the day. Sustained winds are expected to increase during the afternoon before becoming gustier during the evening hours. Wind gusts could reach between 20 and 30 mph in some locations, especially in open desert areas.

The combination of lower temperatures and clear skies will make for more comfortable conditions outdoors, but residents should still practice heat safety when spending extended periods outside.

Temperatures near 100 degrees can still lead to heat-related illnesses if proper precautions are not taken.

Looking ahead, dry conditions and mostly sunny skies are expected to remain in place through much of the week, with temperatures holding near seasonal averages across the Desert Southwest.
