Bill Mundell and Tom Chabin: Candidates running for Corporation Commission

“It doesn’t make any difference if you’re a Republican, an Independent, or a Democrat,” stresses Tom Chabin, Candidate for AZ Corporation Commissioner. “The issue is your electric bill.”

Tom Chabin and Bill Mundell are running for two of the three open seats on the Arizona Corporate Commission. They both identify with the Democratic party, but they say this race is not a political one. They say it’s about protecting the consumer.

“Currently you’re subject to the monopoly of APS raising your rates in some cases up to $200 a month based on what’s called a demand charge,” says Mundell.

This “demand charge” is what Chabin and Mundell plan to challenge if elected to the Commission.

“APS wants to raise your rates up to 8% a year but we certainly want to look at giving consumers other options,” Mundell explains.

Rates are not the only things that APS is raising. This year the Public Service Company raised questions about whether or not they spent millions of dollars over the last three years to influence the Arizona Corporate Commission.

“Every time you’ve paid your bill, APS has taken a little bit of that money and put it into a campaign to elect their slate,” stresses Chabin.

Chabin and Mundell say they have nothing against the men and women who they say “sweat bullets” to deliver electricity to Arizona. They hope to join current commissioner, Bob Burns, a Republican, who has been fighting to take down APS executives during his current term.

“Mr. Burns needs help,” explains Chabin. “He needs two more votes on the Commission to get into the books and clean up the relationship between the Corporation Commission and APS.”
