Baby born at Port of Entry’s Secondary Inspection Area

Firefighters from the San Luis Fire Department helped a mother deliver a newborn baby girl at the San Luis Port of Entry on Monday morning.

Paramedics say they received the call at 7:30 a.m.

When they arrived on the scene, they quickly realized the 23-year-old mother wasn’t going to make it to the hospital in time to deliver her baby there.

The paramedics say they quickly helped the mother into the ambulance which was parked at the port’s secondary inspection area. A healthy baby girl was born minutes later, according to firefighters.

The firefighters say they transported the mother and baby to Yuma Regional Medical Center.
