YUMA, Ariz- Students from Yuma Park and Recreation Belly dancing and from Arizona Western College come together, to perform at student showcase.
Belly dancing is one of the oldest forms of social dancing to date. A mysterious origin, has brought a diverse community together. Instructor Shelley Parris, is excited to put the finishing touches for this weekend’s performance.
” “it’s nice to explore a dance form where you don’t have to have the perfect body for.Watching them bloom and become much more comfortable in their own skin, this art form really has a lot of magic to it, in that aspect. ”
With the “inner confidence” , students are getting ready for their 8th Annual Student Showcase performance, filled with skirts, veils, and swords on stage. It takes place on Saturday night at 7pm at Kofa Highschool.
“it is yuma’s hidden gem, you know and that it really gives an opportunity to see what the dance form really is, and there’s more than one style and in the show you get to see all three styles.” says Angela Hoag, a longtime student.
The class is filled with women with all different shapes and ages, loving what belly dancing brings out of them.
Twelve-year-old student,Raven Diaz expresses, ” it brings out the real person, it brings out your personality when you’re dancing, you don’t know what’s going to happen. I fell in love with it you can too. ”
