Two victims shot; YCSO looking for three shooters
Gun fire rattled the 900 block of South Dora Avenue Wednesday afternoon. The suspects are still on the loose. The Yuma County Sheriff’s Office says the suspects are to be considered armed and dangerous.
Some residents in the area were concerned about the law enforcement presence. “I saw a police car where that truck is and another at the end of the street and another on the other side”, said Marcelina Tovar a resident near the victim’s home.
Our cameras were rolling as deputies investigated the shooting. They say the emergency call came in around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, the Sheriff’s Office quickly responded to the scene. YCSO could not tell us who made the call to 911. “When deputies arrived we discovered three suspects came over to the residence and shot 2 victims inside the residence”, said YCSO spokesman Alfonso Zavala.
YCSO says the two victims transported themselves to the hospital. We do not know their condition at this point or the motive behind the shooting.
When we asked YCSO officials if residents in the area should be very concerned about the nearby shooting they said, “Our investigation leads us to believe it’s an isolated incident, residents should not be concerned that this is something going on around Yuma County”.
Law enforcement had South Dora Avenue closed off for several hours. Zavala says it was closed from around 4:30 p.m. and 12 a.m. Tovar says she has lived in the neighborhood for about 20 years and that it has been getting more violent recently. “Before it was always calm but now police have come and I am not sure”, said Tovar.
Deputies at this point have been left with very little to go on and they are encouraging anyone with knowledge of these suspects to help bring them to justice. “As a community we should all work together, you should work with law enforcement so Yuma County is a safer place for all of us and our children”, said Zavala.
