Somerton students participate in marching band

SOMERTON, Ariz. (KYMA) - Students grades five through eight are learning more than just music through the Somerton District Marching Band.

For these young musicians, being part of the marching band it is an opportunity to build confidence, create friendships and develop skills that will benefit them beyond the classroom.

Now, the students are hoping to receive something special to help them represent Somerton with pride: Their own band uniforms.

The school is inviting local businesses, families and community members to contribute toward the purchase of new band uniforms.

"The main goal of the Somerton Band is to create a safe space where students can come and participate, express themselves musically," said Jesus Quintero, band director. "The opportunities they get is there's periods in the middle school where they learn to play their instrument and I also go out to the elementaries and teach them to play their instrument at their schools."

Every donation, no matter the amount, can help these young musicians take another step toward their goal.
