Centennial Middle school finishes RC track
News 11 reporter Melissa Zaremba brings the final look at the new track.
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY-TV) - Centennial Middle School just finished its new RC track to enhance the RC class curriculum.
On your mark, get set, go. These cars are ready to roll.
Centennial is another local campus to add an RC track for their radio-controlled cars.
After many days of planning and bringing in tons of dirt, the track is finally complete.
“I wanted to design a track that was challenging for the experience drivers but still the new drivers would be able to negotiate and get through with no problems, I’ve been RC racing for quite a number of years in what I would like to see in a track and just translated it over here to something they can use,” said track designer and owner of Fast Eddie’s Controlled Hobbies Eddie Ramirez.
The track was funded by Youth Alive, an organization to help enhance schools.
“It’s amazing you know I think the best way to get outside of your own anxieties and own insecurities sometimes is to help someone else and so we love the fact we can be a service to the community,” said Arizona Youth Alive director Christian Chambliss.
Centennial started its RC program at the beginning of the year so the new track is a great expansion for the students.
“It’s one thing to learn RC in the classroom to go through the books and study and things like that, but the real education is in doing, so if they can get out there and actually put hands on the cars translate what they’ve learned in the classroom and apply it in real life, but it’s not only fun but educational for them,” said Ramirez.
The RC track is open on the weekends and after school hours for the community to use.
Centennial will host its first RC track tournament with other schools on April 30th.
