Congressman Ruiz encourages high school students to join arts competition

EL CENTRO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - Congressman Raul Ruiz (D-California) is having an art competition for high school students.

Congressman Raul Ruiz is encouraging high school students who are artists to participate in this years congressional arts competition.

Students can show off their artistic work by submitting original art work.

Students in Imperial Valley know classmates who are into art and are willing to spread the word.

“I have many friends that love music love many types of art," said Michael Trujillo, student at Imperial High School.

They also think it's a great opportunity express their artistic skills.

“I would just tell them its a great opportunity for them and they should like get into it cause' its a way to put them out there and stuff,” said Kaylee Cruz, student at El Centro Union High School.

The types of artwork can be paintings, drawings, prints, photography, and mixed media.

Submissions are open on April 28 and can be dropped off at the El Centro District Office.

The first prize winner will be announced next month and will have their art displayed at the U.S. Capitol.
