Investigation opened to see the effects social media has on children

(KYMA, KECY/CNN) - An investigation has been opened to look into the popular app TikTok is affecting children in a harmful way.

A group of state attorneys general opened up this case to also have a similar study with Instagram.

"It's really a wake-up call... The power of social media on such a young population," says Director for the Center for Pediatric Neurosciences Dr. Mohammed Aldosari.

Social media may affect mental by causing stress and anxiety in children, as Dr. Aldosari says young minds are vulnerable.

Kids already suffering from a mental health issue may need to be monitored and parents should talk to them about what can be found online.

"I think it's something that we really have to address for the wellbeing and the safety of the young generation," continued Dr. Aldosari.
