Half of American adults now fully vaccinated

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - On Tuesday, President Joe Biden announced 50% of adult Americans are now fully vaccinated.

According to Mayo Clinic, experts estimate 70% of United States population must be vaccinated to fully recover from the pandemic.

Dr. Ayrn D. O'Connor, from the University Medical Center Phoenix said "It can't work if we don't have enough folks vaccinated so if you're vaccine rates are low it's not going to do what it's supposed to do, and you need to end up falling back to our public health measures of social distancing and masking."

The state-run vaccination site that is expected to close on June 26 said it's seen a decrease in the amount of people coming in to get the vaccine. When the site first opened there were as many as 500 people a day getting the vaccine. That number has dwindled to no more than 300 in recent weeks.

Sunset Health also reported the number of people coming in for a vaccine to be going down.

But still vaccination sites are trying to get creative with the way they get people to head into the clinics.
