Instagram to nudge teens away from dangerous topics

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY-TV/CNN ) - Meta has announced two new safety features targeting teens on Instagram.

The company says the first initiative will hopefully "nudge" teens away from harmful content.

The nudges are actually notifications Meta says will pop up with suggestions for teens who repeatedly look at the same type of content in instagram's explore section.

They are hoping the notification will steer teens away from harmful content and encourage them to explore new topics.

The platform will also remind teens to take time away from instagram with its "take a break feature."

Meta says users will be able to turn on a reminder that will show up when they have been scrolling for a period of time.

Both features are currently being tested in six countries including the U.S, U.K and Canada.

Meta plans to launch them on Instagram later this summer.
