NASA’s SS Sally Ride launches at a Virginia facility

(NBC) - NASA's Sally Ride rocket launched on Monday, November 7, 2022 from Wallops fight facility in Wallops Island, Virginia.

It lifted off at 5:32am Eastern.

It is Northrop Grumman's 18th resupply mission to the International Space Station.

The Cygnus cargo spacecraft is carrying approximately 8,200 pounds of research, crew supplies and hardware.

It will arrive at the space station by Wednesday and will remain there until late January 2023.

When it departs, it will dispose several tons of trash during a destructive re-entry into Earth's atmosphere.

Also, NASA rechristened The Cygnus as the SS Sally Ride in honor of late NASA astronaut, physicist, and first American woman to fly in space, Sally Ride.
