Fall festival to celebrate Healthy Families Program

MGN

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The Child & Family Resources and Children's Action Alliance will host a celebration for families enrolled in the Healthy Families Program.

Particularly, this is also to celebrate the increase in state funding for Healthy Families home visitation services.

Therefore, families will be available to speak to the media about the success of the program come Tuesday, October 18.

With this in mind, one family expressed, “Healthy Families has been a great support to my family. They have guided us through the postpartum period, and with all the emotions that go with it. And they brought activities we use to support our son’s development.”

Healthy Families Arizona

In any case, Healthy Families Arizona (HFAz) is a free, evidence-based, prevention home visitation program.

The program is to prevent child abuse and neglect, and to provide stability for families, pregnant women, and parents of newborns.

In any event, families receive home visits by trained staff, connecting families to resources and provide child development coaching and education.

Established in 1991, the program has served only a portion of eligible families in Arizona due to limited funding restrictions.

“Thanks to Governor Ducey’s proposal and the support of many, the increased funding will allow Healthy Families to continue to serve families here in the town of Yuma, and we are now able to expand services and serve additional families in the growing communities of Somerton and San Luis,” said Jo Harper, Program Director of the Western Arizona Region with Child & Family Resources, Inc."

Also, according to Harper, referrals in Yuma County primarily come from Yuma Regional Medical Center (YRMC).

Not only that, other referrals come from other service providers such as the Dept. of Child Safety.

More information about the festival

Overall, the festival starts at 5:00pm at Mesa Heights Community Hall, located on 2150 S. Arizona Ave in Yuma.
