Tuesday marks 52 years since President Ford pardoned former President Nixon

WASHINGTON (CBS, KYMA) - On September 8, 1974, President Gerald Ford granted an unconditional pardon to former President Richard Nixon.

Although never formally charged with a federal crime, President Ford had earlier taken the position against a pardon for former President Nixon.

However, that Sunday morning in 1974, Ford announced the pardon from the Oval Office.

Nixon responded by accepting the pardon and stating regret for his mishandling of the Watergate affair.
