President Trump suggests renaming New Mexico to ‘New America’

(CNN, KYMA) - President Donald Trump posted a series of photos to social media Sunday, suggesting he wants to rename New Mexico as "New America"

There is no explanation shared alongside the images, and the White House has not announced an effort to rename New Mexico.

While President Trump has the power to rename geographic landmarks, such as bodies of water, he does not have the constitutional authority to legally rename states.

That process would have to happen within the state.
