House votes no to measure limiting SCOTUS

(CNN, KYMA) - A measure limiting the number of Supreme Court justices failed to pass in the House Wednesday.

The House rejected a Republican proposal, 212 to 206, to amend the Constitution and cap the number at nine.

The resolution from Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.) failed to get the required two-thirds vote for adoption.

Even if it did pass, it's not clear whether the Senate would have brought it up for a vote.

The symbolic measure was seen as a GOP effort to counter what they said were Democratic ambitions to expand the bench.

Rep. Don Davis (D-N.C.) was the only Democrat to have voted in favor of the measure.
