Senate confirms Dr. Erica Schwartz as CDC director

(CNN, KYMA) - The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has a new director after the Senate confirmed Dr. Erica Schwartz Wednesday.

Dr. Schwartz served as deputy surgeon general during President Donald Trump's first term and is a retired U.S. Coast Guard officer.

The medical doctor has a lengthy record of promoting the safety and efficacy of childhood vaccines.

Schwartz officially replaces Dr. Susan Monarez, who was removed after clashing with U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., in part over vaccine policies.
