California Gov. Gavin Newsom announces action to safeguard state’s elections

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KYMA, NBC) - Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-Calif.) is holding a press conference Wednesday afternoon.

According to a press release obtained by NBC News, this is to announce "new efforts to safeguard California's elections from potential interference as threats from federal officials grow."

The press conference comes less than one week before the California primaries, happening Tuesday, June 2, 2026.

Joining Gov. Newsom in the press conference are members of the California legislature, according to the press release.
