Katherine Haley runs for Arizona Treasurer
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - Arizonans will choose the state's next treasurer in November, and Republican candidate Katherine Haley says her background in public policy, education leadership, and business has prepared her for the job.
Haley currently serves as president of the Arizona State Board of Education. Before that, she spent years working on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., including time supporting members of Congress and U.S. senators on federal policy.
She also worked for former House Speaker John Boehner, focusing on issues including education policy, worker freedom, and international religious freedom.
In addition to her government experience, Haley said she spent several years working in philanthropy, helping organizations invest in education programs, workforce development, and teacher support initiatives.
Haley says that mix of public policy and private sector experience has shaped how she approaches leadership.
She says the Treasurer's Office is about more than managing money, describing it as a role that helps implement state policy and supports communities across Arizona.
"So much of the role of the treasurer is, yes, you're the chief banking and investment officer, but you're implementing public policy that how the state invests its dollars is defined in statute," Haley said.
Haley is one of several candidates running for Arizona treasurer, alongside Republican Elijah Norton, Democrat Nick Mansour, and Independent candidate Michael Zepeda.
She says the office directly affects local governments by helping manage and invest public dollars, including funds that support education, infrastructure, and public services across the state.
"If you're a wise steward of state taxpayer dollars and you are always looking for greater efficiencies and rooting out fraud, well then, our taxes stay low and individuals have the resources that they can put in their own pocketbooks and spend it as they so choose," Haley said.
