DOJ asks court to undo White House ballroom ruling

(CNN, KYMA) - The Justice Department is asking a federal judge to reverse a ruling to halt construction on the White House ballroom.

Work on the ballroom is currently the subject of a legal battle, with the National Trust for Historic Preservation suing to stop it.

A federal court judge has issued rulings saying President Donald trump needs authorization from Congress to complete it.

The new filing cites Saturday night's shooting at the White House Correspondents' Dinner as justification the ballroom is needed.

It claims such an incident could not take place in the new ballroom because it would be too secure.

The dinner where the shooting happened did not take place at the White House. It was at the Washington Hilton, which has hosted the event for more than 50 years.
