U.S. government unclear on where deported Venezuelans are

(CNN, KYMA) - The 137 Venezuelans the U.S. illegally deported last year may never receive due process as Secretary of State Marco Rubio says the U.S. government doesn't know where they are.

That was his answer Monday to a federal court's ruling from last month that requires the Trump Administration find a way to give them due process.

The issue is the migrants were not given an opportunity to challenge their deportations back in March.

They were sent to El Salvador under the Alien Enemies Act on accusations they were associated with the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua.

Then, in July, El Salvador released them all as part of a prisoner swap between the U.S. and Venezuela.

In addition to arguing they can't be located, Secretary Rubio also said granting them hearings would risk damage to foreign policy interests in Venezuela.
