Los Angeles to join lawsuit over immigration raids
LOS ANGELES (CNN, KYMA/KECY) - The City and County of Los Angeles are seeking to join a lawsuit filed against the Trump Administration.
The ACLU of Southern California filed the lawsuit last week on behalf of five individuals and immigration advocacy groups.
The lawsuit is over recent immigration raids.
It alleges the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) "has unconstitutionally arrested and detained people in order to meet arbitrary arrest quotas set by the Trump Administration."
On Tuesday, officials from L.A. and several other cities in Southern California said they were joining the effort "to challenge the unlawful immigration enforcement activities" by DHS.
In a statement, the ACLU called the roundups and raids "illegal" and "unconstitutional."
Officials and business leaders in L.A. say the immigration raids have become a safety issue and impacted the economy.
