Sen. Ruben Gallego reacts to allegations against former Rep. Eric Swalwell

WASHINGTON (NBC, KYMA) - Sen. Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.) called for a press gathering Tuesday in Washington to comment on the allegations against former Rep. Eric Swalwell's (D-CA).

"Eric Swalwell lied to all of us. He lied to the most powerful people in this country, and they trusted him. They trusted him with some of those sensitive spots in our government, whether it was on Judiciary Committee, Intel Committee, impeaching Donald Trump," Sen. Gallego expressed.

The disgraced former congressman called Gallego his "best friend" on the website for Swalwell's now-ended campaign for California governor.

"My friendship with him, our family's friendship together with him, clouded my judgment, and I was wrong. I deeply, deeply regret that," Gallego remarked.

"The women that came forward are courageous and they still deserve justice. But to be clear again, I also had no knowledge of predatory behavior, sexual assault or harassment," the senator added.

Swalwell and Gallego met as members of the House of Representatives, and Gallego chaired Swalwell's brief campaign for president back in 2020.
