Three dead, two injured in car crash in Sacramento

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (NBC, KYMA) - The Sacramento Police Department (SPD) is investigating a crash where three people are dead and two people are in the hospital.

SPD say two people were pronounced dead on scene Saturday evening while three others were rushed to the hospital, where one of them later died. However, the other two are still receiving medical care.

Allison Smith, a spokesperson with SPD, says investigators are working to figure out exactly what led to the crash.

"Due to the circumstances of this collision, our major collision investigation unit detectives will be responding to the scene. We have crime scene investigators on scene as well. They're going to be processing the scene, interviewing any witnesses, canvassing the area for any potential evidence."

Roadways in the area remained closed for a few hours, and police are asking any potential witnesses of the crash to contact them.

"There's a lot of evidence, a lot of vehicle parts on scene. It's very dark out here, so anything that could indicate what caused this collision," Smith shared.
