Five people injured after a police chase in Los Angeles ends in a fiery crash

LOS ANGELES (NBC, KYMA/KECY) - A police chase ended in a fiery crash in Los Angeles Monday night.

Officers from the los Angeles Police Department's (LAPD) Southwest Division were pursuing a suspect before the chase ended at Crenshaw Boulevard around 8:20 p.m.

A patrol car reportedly crashed with a red sedan.

Firefighters arrived on the scene in the Leimert Park area a short time later to conduct a rescue operation.

Two occupants involved in the crash had to be extricated from the red sedan.

Five people were hospitalized including a 12-year-old boy. According to an NBC affiliate in Los Angeles, while the boy's condition is not immediately clear, a 30-year-old woman was left in critical condition.

According to the LAPD, the suspect in the pursuit was wanted for DUI and managed to get away. No suspect description has been provided.
