Idaho prosecutors to seek death penalty against stabbing suspect

MOSCOW, Ida. (NBC, KYMA/KECY) - Prosecutors will pursue the death penalty against the man charged in the slayings of 4 University of Idaho students. That's according to court documents filed Monday.

Bryan Kohberger is charged with four counts of first-degree murder and one count of burglary in connection with the stabbing deaths in Moscow.

In the filing, the prosecuting attorney for latah county pointed to the "aggravating circumstances," describing them as "especially heinous" and saying that Kohberger allegedly exhibited "utter disregard for human life."

Kohberger was arrested December 30 in the deaths of Ethan Chapin, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle, and Kaylee Goncalves.

Kohberger is due in court Tuesday for a hearing on several motions related to the case. His trial is currently set to begin in October.
