Imperial County APCD completes its 8th annual Lawn Equipment Exchange Program

Imperial County Air Pollution Control District

EL CENTRO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - Imperial County Air Pollution Control District (APCD) welcomed back its in-person Lawn Equipment Exchange Program event since the COVID pandemic.

This program is meant to help Imperial Valley residents to bring in their gas-operating lawn equipment in exchange for electric-powered equipment.

This year, 227 pieces were exchanged for a discounted price of new electric-powered equipment that will reduce 275.26 pounds per year of Hydrocarbons and 41.16 pounds per year of Nitrogen Oxides.

The goal of APCD is to help improve air quality by minimizing the use of harmful emissions that can pollute the air.

According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, operating a new gas-powered lawn mower for one hour produces as much air pollution as 11 new cars driven for the same amount of time.
