MANA de Imperial Valley hosts annual scholarship awards
EL CENTRO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - MANA awarded a total of $20,000 in scholarships to 29 students at the Southwest High School Library in El Centro.
The scholarship awards ranged from $500 to $1,000.
One recipient Bertha Frausto is excited to use her scholarship to pursue her academic career.
“I will be transferring to San Diego State University in Imperial Valley so I will be graduating at Imperial Valley College this June my plan is to use my scholarship for any expenses related to this transition,” said Frausto.
The scholarship program is coordinated by Martha Cardenas-Singh and Belen Granados.
Granados was once a MANA scholarship recipient back in 2010.
“It really helped me a lot and being able to purchase my books during my first year of college at UC Santa Barbara and yes it’s a great opportunity for students to receive some financial help but also take the time to reflect and think about the Hispano Latino community,” said Granados.
MANA de Imperial Valley is a local chapter of the national non-profit group. Since 2007 MANA has awarded close to $235,000 in local scholarships.
