Social media threat at Antelope High

WELLTON, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Antelope union high school on this side of caution this morning, after a staff member reported a school threat.

Yuma County Sheriff’s Deputies say the Antelope School threat was made on social media and the student who made the threat was not at school.

Still to stay on the safe side, deputies cleared the premises and students and staff were released from school early.
“A threat of a use of violence with a weapon, gun potentially, put on snapchat,” said Gregory Copeland, Antelope Union High School District Superintendent.

Affecting the 205 students who attend antelope high school in Wellton.

The Yuma County Sheriff’s Office and multiple other agencies rushed to the high school.
“They identified who the potential alleged individual was and that there was some credibility and we went into threat mode immediately,” said Copeland.

Deputies then cleared the school campus, gathering more information.

The student who made the threat was not at school.
“Deputies are looking to make contact with the student and his or her parents,” said Tania Pavlak, YCSO Public Affairs Specialist.

And YCSO is still trying to locate the original post, as it was deleted.
“So they can complete their investigation, we will go to google classroom for the next two days which we then go into spring break,” said Copeland.

Deputies say this is a good time to remind your children about being mindful of their surroundings.
“We do want to thank everyone that went ahead and reported this incident. We encourage parents to talk to their kids and if they see or hear something that makes them feel uncomfortable, fearful or threatened in any matter we do encourage them to report it to an adult or law enforcement immediately,” said Pavlak.

This is an ongoing investigation so if you have any information on this case, call the yuma county sheriff’s office or 78-crime to remain anonymous.
