LONDON (AP) — British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has welcomed Benjamin Netanyahu to London office while demonstrators gathered nearby to protest the Israeli leader’s right-wing policies. Netanyahu had to pass by hundreds of protesters waving Israeli flags and shouting “Shame!” in Hebrew when he arrived at Sunak’s Downing Street office for discussions on the war in Ukraine and concerns about Iran’s nuclear program. His government’s plans to overhaul Israel’s judicial system by assuming more control over judicial appointments and allowing lawmakers to overturn court decisions with a simple majority vote have ignited the biggest protests in the country’s history. Sunak’s office say he stressed to his visitor “the importance of upholding the democratic values that underpin our relationship.”
