(CNN) - You've just wrapped up celebrating Christmas and Boxing Day and you are anxiously waiting for New Year's.

While you wait, grab your favorite chocolate candy and celebrate National Chocolate Candy Day.

The December 28 holiday urges people to chow down on their favorite truffles and ganache.

Chocolate was originally from a cacao tree in Mexico, Central America, and South America.

A Dutch inventor and chemist developed a way to produce it in solid form in in 1828.

A British chocolate company then produced the first edible chocolate bar.

Overall, Americans consume 12 pounds of chocolate each year.
