DOJ sues Ducey over container wall

Feds says the state doesn't have permission to build on federal land

YUMA, Ariz. (KECY, KYMA) - On Wednesday the Department of Justice is filing a lawsuit against Governor Doug Ducey and his administration.

The suit comes four months after the first containers were placed in Yuma.

Saying the make-shift wall is trespassing on federal lands, as the containers were placed without permission.

This comes after his administration was asked to remove the shipping containers along the border wall in October.

Construction began in Yuma in August, as Ducey took it upon himself to fill the gaps using state money.

Local lawmakers, including Yuma's mayor, supported the move, saying it helps prevent migrants from moving through local ag fields.

But his administration has received some pushback.

Protesters in Cochise County say the container wall is harming the environment.

And now the Department of Justice saying the state doesn't have the right to place these shipping containers along the border.
