Sex offender arrested by Border Patrol in Calexico
CALEXICO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY)-El Centro Border Patrol agents arrested a previously deported sex offender Monday.
The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) said agents encountered a man suspected of illegally entering the U.S., 25 miles east of the Calexico Downtown Port of Entry.
Agents arrested the man and transported him to the station for screening.
According to CBP, records identified the man as Juan Morales-Benitez.
A 32-year-old Mexican national who was convicted on June 17, 2011, for molesting a victim under 18 and for sexual battery out of Santa Ana, Calif.
Morales-Benitez served two years in prison and was placed on a three-year probation for his conviction.
CBP said Morales-Benitez is being held in federal custody pending further criminal prosecution.
