Georgia police arrest mother of missing toddler

CHATHAM COUNTY, Geor. (NBC) - Police in Georgia say they have arrested the mother of a toddler who disappeared last month.

Twenty-two year old Leilani Simon has been charged with 20-month-old Quinton Simon's disappearance and murder after human remains were found in an area landfill on Friday.

Additional tests are taking place, but authorities believe the remains belong to Quinton.

Leilani Simon first reported her son missing the morning of October 5.

She said that he had vanished from his playpen at their Savannah, Georgia home.

Authorities took Simon into custody Monday and will be at the Chatham County jail while she awaits a bond hearing.

Police say Leilani Simon was their prime suspect.

"We do not anticipate any other arrests in this case," Chatham County PD Chief Jeff Hadley said.
