Eight people confirmed dead

CHARLOTTE, Al. (KYMA, KECY) - At least eight people are dead after a rapid fire swept across a marina boat dock in Alabama Monday morning.

Drone footage shows the aftermath of the fire's trail, depicting dozens of destroyed boats.

It began shortly after midnight and quickly spread throughout the dock as inhabitants were asleep.

Authorities have said the fire was spread rapidly by windy conditions.

Eight people are confirmed dead, with possibility for more, according to the Scottsboro Fire Department.

At least seven people were sent to hospitals, treated for minor injuries, exposure to flames, or from being in the lake.

Firefighters also rescued survivors from the frigid water.

Authorities continue to investigate what sparked the fire.
