Mississippi River water levels affect Arkansas farmers

NEWPORT, Arka. (NBC) - A lack of rain is causing a big problem for Arkansas farmers, especially those who use the Mississippi river to transport their products.

The Mississippi River is essential to Arkansas farmers' businesses.

Also, the river is also a way for consumers to get their products.

Both using barges on the river.

However, one farmer, Hallie Scoffner, says it's the worst in many decades.

Scoffner added that it is crucial for the "Mississippi river to be high" at this time of year.

If products can not get to the Gulf Coast, then it will effect the price that farmers can charge for their products.

Not only that, farmers will have to leave their products in storage than ship it to consumers.
