Calexico Police Department in search of suspect
The Calexico Police Department is looking for a suspect accused of stabbing a victim on the head and arm
CALEXICO. Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - 39-year-old Alejandro Melendrez is a suspect accused of stabbing a victim on the head and arm.
Police say the stabbing happened in downtown Calexico right by the border.
The victim is 36 years old.
Police say after the stabbing the suspect ran off to Mexico but believe he's now in the United States.
“We received information that he crossed back into the United States... so now we believe he is in a different county. He is no longer in Imperial county... so we are working with the U.S marshals and California state patrol to hopefully get him into custody," said sergeant Manuel Ceja.
According to Calexico police, the suspect is not from the city of Calexico.
“The suspect has an address with his parents in the city of Imperial... along with family members with a different county... also an address of La Puente... and also some ties to Mount. Claire In California," said sergeant Ceja.
