Padres drop NLCS game five to Phillies, eliminated from Postseason
An 8th inning home run from Bryce Harper ended up being the knockout punch as San Diego's season ends in dissapointment
PHILADELPHIA, Penn. (KYMA, KECY) - The San Diego Padres lost game five of the NLCS 4-3 to the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday Oct. 23.
An eighth inning blast from Phillies star Bryce Harper was what ended up sending the Padres home, as it gave the Phillies a 4-3 lead late.
The long ball also affected San Diego early, as starting pitcher Yu Darvish gave up a two-run shot to Rhys Hoskins in the bottom of the 3rd inning to give the Phils a 2-0 lead.
Hoskins' bomb was his fourth of the series.
However, the friars would answer quick, as Juan Soto would take Philly starter Zach Wheeler deep just an inning later to make it a 2-1 ballgame.
That mistake would be one of few for Wheeler, who went six innings, giving up three hits and only two runs.
Wheeler also recorded eight strikeouts on the day.
The loss concludes a season which saw San Diego finish with a 89-73 record and a 2nd place finish in the NL West.
