Heber Elementary School District providing healthcare and mental health services

HEBER, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - Heber Elementary School District and Hazel Health, the nation’s largest telehealth provider for children, is making it easier for students to get healthcare access and mental services when needed.

Heber school’s is providing its nearly 1,200 students access to free pediatric telehealth and
mental health services.

"This is where Heber is unique under many of the other districts they do not have counselors or a clinical social worker on staff and we do so we are able to provide tiers of services so students that need support received the first tier through our counselors a second tier through our clinical social worker and then hazel heart comes in in tier three," said Elizabeth Cardenas, assistant principal at Heber elementary school.

The school Has four school counselors, a psychologist, and a licensed clinical social worker. The program also includes a doctor who will provide medicine for students with parents consent.

The program will help reduce absenteeism and support student success.

School board member Tony Sandoval express how important the welfare for student is.

"Our administrative team is excellent at determining the needs of our community… I am proud to say that the board has a broad vision of making sure we are the hub for all services that our students might need and our administrative team digs through the data and finds where we can make the best investments," said Sandoval.

The program also aims to give parents peace of mind knowing they won't need to miss work and students will miss less school

The services have already started.
