VIDEO: Robb Elementary School students go back to school after Uvalde shooting

(NBC) - Robb Elementary School is not reopening, students and staff have all been reassigned to different schools across the district.

Families have all had to make a very tough decision whether to send their kids back to class in the first place, enroll them in virtual school, or to withdraw them from the district all together, Meredith Yeomans reports.

"She loved to play baseball." Great Grandfather of Lexi Rubio Julian Moreno said.

Julian Moreno's Great Granddaughter Lexi Rubio was one of the 21 people killed inside Robb Elementary.

"I always think of her and regret that we will never see all that she could've achieved in life." Great Grandfather of Lexi Rubio Julian Moreno said.

Despite his family's unthinkable loss, they're sending Lexi's siblings back to the classroom Tuesday.

Satisfied with the steps being taken to keep students safe.

"There may be fear and insecurity but we must face that situation with courage and faith."

The district says it's installing non-scalable fencing and new security cameras at schools, is training 33 DPS troopers to protect it's eight campuses.

"It was a nobrainer." Uvalde Parent Adam Martinez says.

Not enough parents like Adam Martinez whose son Zayon hid in his classroom during the shooting.

He'll attend school virtually this semester.

"When he told me that he was scared and he felt like he was not going to be protected by these police officers, he said that they were not going to be brave enough, I couldn't argue with him." Uvalde Parent Adam Martinez says.

Some parents are pulling their kids out of the district altogether.

A local private school doubled its enrollment over the summer and now has a wait list.

It's unclear how many students opted for in-person versus virtual school and how many have left the district.

Tuesday - expected to be a heavy but hopeful day in Uvalde.
