4-alarm fire partially destroys building in Calexico–copy
CALEXICO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY)- A blazing fire ripped through a two-story commercial building in downtown Calexico Monday morning.
Several agencies were on deck to help the Calexico Fire Department put out the fire.
When firefighters arrived they say the building was fully engulfed in flames.
“At this time we don't have any information regarding any occupants inside the building,” said Eduardo Ainza, Calexico Fire Department Captain.
The building that caught on fire is one of many abandoned buildings in downtown Calexico.
It was once home to the Elks Lodge organization.
Local business owners believe the fire was started by homeless people trespassing the building, but the Calexico Fire Department says it’s unclear what sparked it.
Reports said the Yuma Fire Department was at the scene assisting ICFD with the fire.
No injuries were reported.
