Dangerous heat continues through the weekend for most of U.S.

(KYMA, KECY/ CNN) - Don't expect to escape the heat anytime soon as record-setting temperatures are forecasted to continue across the U.S. through the weekend, and maybe longer.

Forecasters say more than four out of five Americans could see temperatures above 90 in the next seven days. Several areas are under extreme heat warnings, while others have heat advisories.

Phoenix and the Yuma area could hit 113 degrees Friday

Meanwhile, Maricopa County has reported more than two-dozen heat-related deaths since May, part of the a record amount of heat-related deaths in a single half-year.

The heat also has turned deadly in parts of Texas - some parts, a lack of water is forcing ranchers to send cattle to slaughter early.

And it's not just the south that's sweltering.

New York could see its longest streak of 90-plus days in nearly a decade, and cities like Philadelphia could top 100 by Sunday.
