Toddler dies after mom left her in hot car with heater on for over 5 hours while she drank

A California toddler dies after being left in the car while the mother allegedly drank with her friend.

WFTV reports the mother was parked in West Carson, Calif., turned on the heater and draped a blanket over two-year-old June Love Agosto before joining a friend for drinks in a car parked next to hers on September 21.

Reports said the woman, whose name was not released, told police that she fell asleep in the other car.

When she went back to her vehicle about 5 a.m. on September 2, she found June unresponsive and burned with vomit on her clothing, police said.

Police said the woman attempted to remove June from the car, placed her on the grass and sprayed her with a water hose in an attempt to cool her down.

According to WFTV, emergency responders drove the toddler to a nearby hospital where doctors determined her body temperature was 107.5 degrees. She was “in full cardiac arrest.”

Reports said June died September 23 and the girl’s mother, who previously faced drug charges in police custody.
